Action research is conducted in 4 stages:
Planning, Acting, Developing and Reflecting. Planning Stage: This is where the teacher identifies a topic or practice that needs to be improved upon and gathers information along with literature to develop a research plan. Acting Stage: During this stage data is collected then analyzed. This data can be collected using quantitative, qualitative or a mixed methodology. Developing Stage: As the data is analyzed, teachers can now develop an action plan. This action plan is where the teacher can write down the study that took place. Reflecting Stage: This last stage is where the teacher reflects on the process and shares the results with others. |
Traditional research is used to add information to the overall topic and add to the field of knowledge (Mertler, 2017). This is also based more on theory, rather than trying to solve an immediate problem. In addition, this research is generalizable, which means that it can be repeated in other settings. Similar to action research, traditional research can be conducted in many environments, but the traditional research that I conducted pertained only to the realm of education.
