One of the best series that explains ADDIE model is the following:

ARCS is an instructional model developed by John Keller, and focuses on motivation. It is important to motivate the learners, and ensure the continuity of the motivation during the instruction. This model is particularly important for e-learning, since motivating learners in an online course more difficult than in face-to-face courses. There are four components of ARCS model, and stands for Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction.

This course includes information about why having good posture habits matter and what happens if we do not adapt these practices alongside the with examples of the best practices. Potentially new vocabulary covered in the materials will also be presented. The course was delivered online via Google Classroom platform. Students were given access by the instructor and started by taking a pre-test before interacting with the other materials. After the pre-test, students accessed the rest of the educational materials. According to the students' pace, the material was supposed to be completed in order to be able to score well in the post-test. The module takes approximately 80 minutes. It can be all done at once or multiple times. Students will have a week to finish the course requirements. At the end, a course evaluation was provided to the students to get their feedback for further improvements.

For our final project, we decided to create a virtual classroom to deliver a course about “Health Literacy” by focusing on the “Posture Health” subject. It was a self- instructional course where our targeted group was able to explore the topic and its related terms according to their pace. Participants were engaged in different learning and assessment activities such; pre/post assessment, videos, discussions, and others. Working with designers who do not have medical background was an eye opening experience about how important the unsaid points can be. It made me learn how to simplify the information that I used to apply practically without the need to think about how my beneficiaries comprehended it. This group project enriched my skills not only as an health provider, but also elevated me to learn how to be a good health educator for different and unique targeted groups.

In this program, I learned about how to storyboard any project or product. The storyboard is simply a script with the ID’s ideas for the graphics that go with the words added to it. Using storyboards to explain and present the ID’s ideas and required work provides a visual workflow that helps to outline possible activities and interactions. Using storyboard will also help in assuring that all the steps of the instructional designing had been met. It is an enjoyable and easy way to present, share, and follow when IDs start the developing stage. Above, is and example of a health literacy with concentration on body posture for ESL students. I benefited from my experience as a physical therapist to create this material, delivering it to ESL student which was a new field for me that was introduced by one of my cohort classmates.

Reflection on ID models: I would like her to talk about one of the most important models I learned about which is Keller’s ARCS. I believe that Keller's ARCS motivation model can be incorporated by hiring some skills from the teacher. Teachers should know their student's interests and know-how to get their attention and how to maintain that attention. Also, educators should be able to address appropriate content and materials for the students by knowing what is necessary and needed. Moreover, the educator should have enough skills, experience, and the ability to conduct the teaching material with self- assurance to be able to perform well and be able to deal with the student’s feedback with any future modification. I see that this model is one of the most crucial to be applied in ID field as a mother of boys who usually struggles in learning is the element of external motivation is not presented. To see the different effects on my children’s performance when having an educational material that included an appropriate and suitable activities that interest and motivate them Vs. others that are rigid and not interactive made me believe that the interaction is one of the most important elements for any curriculum or learning process to succeed. |
Reflection on e-learining: I believe that the face of virtual and e-learning will be changed forever after the current COVID-19 pandemic. The need for good and well established e-learning curriculum, teaching skills, and to keep up with the latest e-learning trends are all key factors that can affect the future application of elearning methods. something I noticed after going through a fully E learning experience as a student and a teacher, is that e-learning tends now to be more inclusive and collaborative. The learning engagement in the current e-learning is higher than before due you to the development of the digital educational tools such as AR/ VR and gamification. I believe that E learning is here to stay. The old school that uses the classic technological tools such as overhead projectors, photocopies and even blackboards will start to disappear or even might not be seen and in the nearby time. As a health profession worker, e-learning for me will be merged not only in health education, but also in health care services delivery. COVID-19 revealed unexpected potentials of distance health services, online health services, E health education, and E health services. I 'm not sure whether I will only be in involved in online and E learning teaching or EHealth practices. However, having combined skills and experience in e-teaching as well as health services delivery will definitely open wide doors for me as an instructional technologist, public health advocate, as well as a physical therapist. |
